Liquefaction and reliquefaction resistance of saturated sand deposits treated with sand compaction piles

To mitigate liquefaction and its associated soil deformations, ground improvement techniques were adopted in field to reinforce saturated sand deposits. Sand Compaction Pile (SCP) is one such popular proven treatment improve resistance of sandy Installation compaction piles improves density rigidity which further enhance seismic against this was well evident from past observations. However, studies involving SCP performance during repeated shaking events not available/limited. In study, using 1-g uniaxial table, a series experiments performed on treated untreated deposits having 40% 60% relative subjected incremental acceleration loading conditions (i.e., 0.1–0.4 g at 5 Hz frequency). Parameters as density, generation dissipation excess pore water pressures, maximum observed foundation settlement displacement variation cyclic stress ratio evaluated compared. Seismic response liquefiable found be improved significantly due installation together with occurrence continuous densification under loading. The experimental observations suggested that can perform better even events.
